About: Burgh Island Hotel is a perfect example of glamorous Art Deco living.

Built in 1928, run as a Hotel since 1932, the building nestles in the lee of the West-facing Island cliffs like a white ‘30s cruise ship. In the ‘50s, the Hotel was known as the “Best Hotel West of the Ritz” and today its owners maintain the tradition of elegant, timeless living. Guests often describe “stepping back in time” and the atmosphere of cocktails, sunshine, seagulls, dressing for dinner and dancing under the moonlight is surely unique in this country in this time.

While evocative in style, the comforts of the Hotel are very modern and our food has consistently won praise for its whole hearted local sourcing policy and its excellence. Burgh Island works closely with local suppliers (offering guests the opportunity to tour some producers) and is passionate about its Island environment, in all its quirky beauty.

All of the rooms are individual in design but consistent in comfort and delights: luxurious bathrooms, airy sitting rooms, balconies and inescapable sea views are everywhere. Guests can spend their days relaxing on the sunny terraces, bathing in the sea-water Mermaid Pool, sipping cocktails, playing tennis or croquet until – inevitably – finding their way to 14th century The Pilchard Inn for a late afternoon pint or Bloody Mary at the fireside bar.
